Finding High Quality Dog Food

Learning about the differences between high quality dog food and mediocre dog food can be a time consuming process, but providing your dog with a healthy diet is well worth the extra effort.

Read what Ricardo has to say about the importance of finding a high quality dog food:

In my humble opinion (and my dog’s opinion as well), buying the best dog food that you can afford is very important. Buying the cheapest brand of “no name” dog food is not always the best way to go for your dog and also for you. When we first got our dogs, we bought them some middle of the road dog food from a grocery store. The dogs seemed to enjoy eating it and it wasn’t very expensive when you bought it in the largest quantity available. We read an article that stated that buying a higher quality dog food will make your pet happier and so we decided to give it a try. We went to a fancy pet store and bought a bag of “Wellness” brand dog food. Our pets loved it – they ate it with a ferocity that I have not seen in them. They also seemed to be much more energetic when we brought them outside, yet also calmer when they were inside. Overall, we were very happy with the results. According to some internet research that I have done, the higher quality brand dog foods contain less grains, corn, and meat by-products. They instead contain more protein and real meat. I’m not sure why these ingredients are more appealing to dogs, but my dogs love them. I suppose that they are healthier and closer to a dog’s natural diet. These expensive dog foods usually cost around $40 for a 50-pound bag. That’s not really all that expensive when you think about it but I guess compared to the 50-pound, $12 bags of stuff that you find at grocery stores, it can be seen as a lot more money. The best brand that I have found is “Wellness” brand dog food. It comes in many flavors and varieties. I like the “Wellness Core” type – it is the Wellness brand but it contains no grains and is high in protein. “Iams” and “Science Diet” are two other great brands. All in all, I feel that these high quality dog foods are completely worth the extra money. My dogs are much happier and they also seem much healthier.
